Editorial Director

Job Overview:  

The Editorial Director will lead the development of Gist Healthcare Daily, a leading weekday health business and policy news podcast with more than 40,000 downloads a month. The Director will identify and cover significant healthcare news and market trends with an eye towards context and analysis. The Director will also work with Gist partners to support the ongoing production of the Weekly Gist. In this role, the Director will work with the Gist Healthcare team to develop and communicate Gist’s values, ideas, and point of view on the fast-changing healthcare market. 

The position is full-time; location is flexible.

Primary Responsibilities:  

  • Lead production and delivery of Gist Healthcare Daily podcast and associated written deliverables. 
  • Collaborate with Gist leadership to support delivery of the Weekly Gist. 
  • Develop Gist Healthcare’s internal and external “storytelling” capabilities, to document and teach insights from successful Member organizations. 

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • 3+ years’ journalism experience, with the ability to research, develop, write, and deliver stories 
  • Audio experience: including recording, interviewing, audio editing and voicing 
  • Familiarity with and understanding of healthcare business and policy news and market trends
  • Ability to synthesize larger trends into a compelling narrative
  • Demonstrated ability to develop ongoing relationships and trust with key contacts  
  • Experience working in a small team environment, as well as independently  
  • Experience with developing and editing stories for delivery in a radio, video, or podcast format  
  • Clear oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated facility in writing and editing prose that is clear, concise, and engaging 
  • Strong upward management and workplace communication skills  
  • Demonstrated self-motivation, with the ability to work independently and in a team setting 
  • Ability to develop production schedules and agendas, and to set and meet team deadlines
